How does floating work?

Floatation Therapy, also known as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST), is a practice where you enter into a float tank (sometimes called an isolation tank or sensory deprivation tank). The tank is an enclosed tub filled with about 11″ of water that is saturated with roughly 1000 pounds of dissolved medical grade Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate). The air in the tank and the salt water solution is heated to the same temperature as the surface of your skin so that as you settle you lose perception of what parts of your body are in the air and which are in the solution. The tank is light-proof, sound-proof and you'll be perfectly buoyant and suspended effortlessly with a minimal amount of sensory input entering into your nervous system.
