The Love the Float Story

Brian presenting at the 2018 Float Conference

Brian presenting at the 2018 Float Conference

I am an avid floater, my family and I have been dramatically impacted by having floating in my life. I have shared my story in a variety of ways, it excites me to introduce others to how floating could be a beneficial addition to their lives.

When I was invited to speak at the 2018 Float Conference I met so many fantastic people associated with floating. Throughout the weekend I spoke with people from all around the world who share my passion. I found a group of people who’s businesses are driven not solely by the dollar, but by the belief that their product can change people’s lives for the better!

I knew that I wanted to be a bigger part of the float community even before the Float Conference. I had been thinking about different ways my participation might be possible. I am not in a position to consider changing careers or opening a float center of my own. The float industry is still in it’s infancy and there are opportunities for people to find roles beyond operating a float center. By the end of the Float Conference weekend what had been a vague concept for my next step was taking shape.

For someone interested in floating it can be difficult to separate the marketing from the reality.

I am asked a wide variety of questions about floating, often by people far away. I have found it frustrating that there is not a good central resource for floaters on the internet that I could point people toward. Float Centers are mostly small businesses with a relatively localized zone of influence. Some of the centers have terrific web sites with factual information and excellent tips, some are less effective or make unrealistic claims. For someone interested in floating it can be difficult to separate the marketing from the reality.

First time and potential floaters need a resource they can trust, one that is not influenced by where they spend their self care dollar. Floaters are enthusiastic about sharing with others the ways floating has improved our lives. People in the industry are passionate about floating, it has become their life’s work, but they have many demands on their time beyond an informative website.

That is where Love the Float comes in; this site is built to serve the floating community!

  • Provide an independent resource for the public to learn about floating and the ways it can benefit them.

  • Share the stories of how floating has improved the lives of people just like you all around the world.

  • Offer my personal journey through floating by sharing stories, offering commentary, and answering questions from you.

  • Providing a community for floaters through the website and it’s associated social media platforms.

  • Provide insight into the industry with profiles of the people behind floating, introducing the public to these passionate people who are making floating available to us.

  • Offer a site that Float Centers can link to that will enhance their educational and community website resources.

My introduction to Love the Float. What is Love the Float? What's my back story and why did I decide to create Love the Float? What is floating should you trust me when I tell you about it? How can I help you get the most from your float experience?

The Team and Acknowledgments

Love the Float was founded in 2018. You can learn more about me in the Brian’s Journey portion of the site.

The site would not be possible without the support of the people around me. My immediate family (Michelle, Ethan, Claire, Tom, Phyllis, and Sherrie) all contribute. They are the team that helps me with editing, graphic design, and moving this project forward.

Portland is a fantastic city for floating, the center owners have been extremely generous with their time and are always available to answer questions and provide guidance. Dana of Float North, Graham & Ashkahn of Float On & Float Tank Solutions & Float Conference, and Dylan & Sandra of The Float Shoppe & Art of the Float have all been very supportive. Gloria of Float Sixty in Chicago has also been a terrific resource. Sarah of Sarah Moon + Co has been very helpful with getting my web development skills out of the last decade. I can’t thank you all enough!
