Float Conference 2021 is upon us and it brings front and center how much change I’ve experienced since last year’s conference! A major skeletal failure followed by surgical reconstruction and changing jobs after 25+ years were the mileposts. One thing that I am very sure of, floating has continued to be a cornerstone of my life’s journey.
In September of 2020 I had the honor of presenting for the second time at the International Float Conference. I spoke in the “Why We Float” segment of the virtual conference about my experiences during Float A Day May.

My first two days home were a bit of a learning curve, but I am incredibly pleased with the early results!
It is the big day, December 11th of 2020!
This is certainly something I’ve been looking forward to, but also something that can’t help but make me a bit nervous. No matter how positive the expectations are or how carefully the decision was made, this is still a major surgery.
Thankfully, the surgery was extraordinarily successful!
Today is surgery day. My wife will be updating my Facebook page with pertinent updates until I’m able to resume myself. I will probably post some videos or short posts as I’m able between now and the next regular episode.
It has been quite the roller coaster the past week. It culminating in learning I’ve been pushed forward to this Friday and moved back to St. Vincent Hospital!
In the second part of the video I talk about floating. I describe it and how much it has improved my quality of life living with chronic back issues.
After 48 hours of torturous limbo, great news arrived this morning!
In this episode I react to news I knew had a possibility of coming but hoped I could avoid. The spike in COVID-19 cases has forced Providence to cancel all surgeries not deemed to be life saving in the region. There is some possibility of moving my procedure to another facility, that is what we are hanging our hopes on for now.
This is incredibly important information that everyone should go look at! Flux has an amazing knack for making complex science easy to consume for the rest of us.
In late August, over the course of just a few weeks, my back issues came back to the forefront of my life. My pain level exploded to a point of being non-functional, I’ve been completely laid up and on disability since September 1st. We have decided to go forward with a new fusion surgery.

Talking about my leukemia diagnosis and subsequent blast crisis. Brian will need a bone marrow transplant after completing a series of infused chemotherapy injections. He is currently in the hospital in Portland, Oregon.

In this thirteenth episode we look at the period of healing from halfway through the second week to the end of the third week following surgery. The healing continues to progress much as expected on a slower but still steady pace.
